Joy-Jon Park Development

The Joy-Jon Park Development comprises 146 acres (59.1 hectares), is situated at the southwest end of the beautiful Bras d’Or Lake on Cape Breton Island; offering a combination of woodland seclusion, panoramic vistas of the lake, islands and quiet ponds in the lovely landscape of the Lime Hills and Marble Mountains, and ready access to some of the most renowned sailing waters in North America.

Introduction

Cape Breton Island is a unique blend of contemporary progress and a carefully preserved heritage. This is reflected in the communities in which modern facilities and shopping centers co-exist with the gentle architecture of 18th and 19th century churches, inns and houses. The rural landscape with its peaceful valleys, rugged uplands, numerous lakes, open and sheltered beaches and fishing villages, provides visitors with an ever-changing scenery and outdoor activities. Remote areas are among the most attractive feature on the Island. One can almost always discover an unpopulated beach or stretch of peaceful woodland to explore.

Location

The Joy-Jon Park Development is located at the base of the northern tip of Widow Point Peninsula, part of a wide peninsula extending into Bras d’Or Lake, just 3.0 miles (4.8km) north of West Bay community. A portion of the development lines the publicly maintained MacKenzie Point Road and the internal roads within the project are private and have gravel surface treatments. The natural vegetation of the site is dominated by spruce soft-wood; however, yellow birch, sugar maple and hemlock are also common.

The Joy-Jon Park Development is the ideal vacation destination for water sport and nature lovers.  Discover the untouched nature, the quiet bays and inlets, the protected, lovely beaches and crystal clear water.

Entirely up to you to enjoy the privacy of your own large space or enjoy a more social setting close enough to other vacationers, residents and town.  Whether you swim, windsurf, sail, water-ski, sun bathe, or snorkel, whether you enjoy fishing, tennis, golfing, or nature walks, here, everything is possible.  Barbeque on your patio overlooking the lake or at the beach, a cheerful, stress-free atmosphere, perfect vacation pleasures.

In fall the hills explode in a vibrant display of reds, oranges, crimsons and gold and will keep you in awe.  For those who hunt you’ll enjoy the challenge of the well represented White-tailed deer.  And in winter enjoy alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.

Bras d’Or Lake
Widening out from its two Atlantic entrances the Bras d’Or Lake extends in its 450 sq. miles of area through the heart of the island. Nearly a thousand miles of interior coast-line bordering all four counties and framing in an enchanting succession of wide harbours, island dotted bays, and deep fjord-like channels. Bras d’Or Lake is the largest lake in Nova Scotia. Only 6 inches of tide, no currents and only one-third of the salt content of the open sea makes the Bras d’Or Lake unquestionably the most ideal body of water for all kinds of recreational activities.
